Updated: February 12, 2011 10:43 am

The first day of the newly-elected minister Beni Prasad Verma in the office was a little bit surprising for him. When he reached his office, to his utter amusement, he found that it was still not opened. However, the office peon was sitting outside the closed doors. Beni Prasad Verma asked him to open the office but the peon, not recognising the minister, refused to do so. He told the startling minister that he would open the doors only after the arrival of the new minister. When Verma told him that he himself was the minister, the peon laughed at him and refused to believe him. Then Verma called his secretary through his mobile. The puzzled secretary ran to the office and fired the peon. The frieghtened peon begging pardon for not recognising Verma opened the doors and then only could the new union steel minister of state (independent charge) enter his office.

Game of awards

All the recipients of the prestigious Padma awards have been conferred with the awards by the government. Awardees are happy that they have got the due recognition to their contributions in the respective fields by the country. But the effect of awarding is not confined only to the awardees; a lot of Congress leaders are also very happy. It is they who had written letters to the home ministry advocating for one or the other person for the Padma award. It is said that more than 1500 letters were sent by different leaders including many general secretaries of Congress party.

Uma’s charm

The magic of Uma Bharati in BJP has not vanished. She is still remembered by the central BJP leaders, though many party leaders from Madhya Pradesh are dead against her. It was witnessed recently when BJP spokesperson Shahnawaj Hussain was briefing the press regarding the Ekta Yatra led by BJYM president Anurag Thakur. At first, Hussain confused it by calling Tiranga Yatra and then in spite of relating it with Dr Murli Manohar Joshi’s Ekta Yatra, he confused it with Uma Bharati’s Tiranga Yatra. When he quoted the Tiranga Yatra of Uma Bharati, he was asked, since after that Yatra Uma Bharati was thrown out of the party, whether Anurag Thakur would meet the same fate. Shahnawaz, first beat about the bush and later managed to defend himself saying that he was not comparing both the yatras.

The said voluntarily confession of Swami Aseemanand is very much in news and a general secretary of Congress is very active on the issue. However, it is said that the CBI officer who is looking after the case has very close relations with that general secretary. It is said that the said officer was very infamous for fake encounters when the said general secretary was CM of a state. It is alleged that the CBI officer is following the instructions of the said general secretary and that is why he also leaked that said voluntarily confession to media before submitting it to the court.
