Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has said there is more than the adequate currency in circulation and also available with the banks. Mr Jaitley today reviewed the currency situation in the country amid reports of its shortage in some parts of the country. In a tweet, he said temporary shortage caused by the sudden and unusual increase in some areas is being tackled quickly.
The Department of Economic Affairs has also said the government continues to have in stock adequate currency notes of all denominations including of 500, 200 and 100 rupees to meet any demand.
It also assured the people that there has been the adequate supply of currency notes which have met entire demand so far and the centre will be supplying adequate currency notes to meet even higher levels of demand if such demand were to continue in the coming days or months.
The Department also said the government is taking all steps to ensure that ATMs are supplied with cash and to get non-functional ATMs normalised at the earliest. The government with the Reserve Bank of India has taken all steps to meet this unusual demand.
