SC refuses to modify Centre’s notification banning use of furnace oil & pet coke in UP

The Supreme Court has refused to modify the Centre’s notification banning the use of furnace oil and pet coke in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Haryana.

The court was hearing a plea by the National Thermal Power Corporation.

The NTPC pleaded that immediate stoppage of furnace oil, which was being used in thermal power plants, will lead to black out as the corporation was providing electricity to various states. The apex court asked the NTPC to approach the government.
