UNSC expresses concern over violence in Myanmar’s Rakhine state

United Nations Security Council has expressed concern over violence in Myanmar’s Rakhine state.

In a statement, the 15-member council expressed concern about reports of excessive violence during the security operations and called for immediate steps to end the violence in Rakhine.

It called for de-escalating the situation, re-establishing law and order, and ensure the protection of civilians.

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has called on Myanmar to halt its military campaign against Rohingyas and asked Myanmar authorities to end the violence, uphold the rule of law, and recognise the right of return of all those who had to leave the country.
